Unlock Up to $75,000 in Grants: Farm Business Transition Program for WA Sheep Producers

PROUDLY AUSTRALIAN OWNED, DESIGNED & MANUFACTURED

Assisting with the transition program for WA sheep farmers.

As the live sheep export phase-out approaches by May 2028, the Australian Government is offering support through the Farm Business Transition Program – Round 1.

This grant can fund up to 50% of costs (max $75,000 GST excl.) for on-farm improvements, including livestock handling equipment like ProWay’s sheep yards, loading ramps, and bulk handlers.

We’re here to make it simple – upgrade your setup for efficiency, safety, and profitability.

What Is the Farm Business Transition Program?

This federal grant, part of the $139.8 million Sheep Industry Transition Assistance Package, helps Western Australian sheep producers adapt to the end of live sheep exports by sea. Round 1 offers up to $20 million total, with individual grants up to $75,000 (GST excl.) for eligible activities.

  • Key Focus: Business planning, professional advice, research adoption, and on-farm infrastructure for alternative farming systems (e.g., domestic processing, on-farm finishing).
  • Funding Split: Government covers up to 50% – you match the rest (cash only, no in-kind or other grants).
  • Timeline: Applications open October 7, 2025; close December 1, 2025 (9:00 pm AEDT). Projects start June 2026, end by May 31, 2027.
  • Administered By: Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry via Community Grants Hub.

ProWay’s equipment qualifies as “on-farm infrastructure and improvements” for better handling, welfare, and efficiency – perfect for transitioning to domestic markets.

Am I Eligible? Check Your Status

Eligibility is for WA sheep producers who’ve participated in live sheep exports in at least one of the last three financial years. You must be a legal entity (e.g., company, sole trader) with an ABN, GST-registered, and have an Australian bank account.

Self-Assess Your Eligibility: Use these official links to verify – we recommend reviewing them before applying.

How to Apply: Step-by-Step Guide

We’ve simplified the process based on the official guidelines. Follow these steps to use the grant for ProWay equipment:

  1. Confirm Eligibility: Review the links above. Ensure you’re a WA sheep producer impacted by the phase-out and can provide proof of export involvement.
  2. Plan Your Project: Identify needs like upgrading to on-farm finishing. ProWay products (e.g., sheep yards for low-stress handling) fit as “investment in on-farm infrastructure” to boost alternative practices.
  3. Gather Documents: Prepare your ABN, bank details, trust deeds (if applicable), and export evidence. Budget your project – e.g., $150,000 total ($75k grant + $75k your contribution) for a custom ProWay system.
  4. Get a Quote from ProWay: Contact us for a quote for our livestock handling equipment that assists your transition program.
  5. Submit Application: Apply online via GrantConnect by December 1, 2025. Address assessment criteria: Impact (35%), Capability (35%), Value for Money (30%). Include your ProWay quote as supporting evidence.
  6. Post-Approval: If successful, sign the grant agreement. Start your project by June 2026; report progress and acquit funds by May 2027.
