Hear What Farmers Say About Our Sheep Yards

Real stories from Australian farmers on safety, efficiency, and durability — discover why they trust ProWay equipment.

Built for today. Engineered for a lifetime of value.

Every detail is designed to reduce risk, minimise maintenance and maximise efficiency — because the true cost of infrastructure is measured over its lifetime, not at purchase.

SITE ASSESMENT

Our ProWay Designers offer an onsite design service. This involves the usage of Total Station technology and drone imagery to record accurate measurements of any existing infrastructure (Yards, Laneways, Roads, Sheds, Ramps etc) as well as natural features like trees and slopes. We can then transfer this information to AutoCAD where we can work off a detailed plan to develop your own custom design. This information can also be used to advise and plot out any Earthworks that may be required, services that you may wish to run to your yards drainage and the final mark out (Peg-Out) of your yards.

DESIGN

ProWay’s design process starts with an on-site assessment to check your site’s slope, surface, stock flow, and handling needs. Our expert team then creates a custom CAD design, blending best-practice principles like flight zones and angles with site and operational requirements. We can incorporate existing fences, lane ways, trees, or ramps for cost effective results. We tailor everything to your herd, scale, and goals, adding innovations like StockFlow™ pneumatics based on client feedback.

MANUFACTURING

ProWay’s manufacturing process is proudly Australian-owned and operated in Wagga Wagga, NSW. We manufacture sheep yards and handling systems using premium, high-quality materials like 1st grade galvanised steel, sourced from leading local suppliers, to ensure toughness in harsh conditions and last a lifetime. Our in-house engineering team custom-makes panels, gates, and components to fit your exact design—not the other way around—focusing on structural soundness, safety, and compliance. Our workshop are focused on efficiency and quality.

INSTALLATION

ProWay’s installation process uses specialist contractors to build sheep yards efficiently and on time. It begins with site preparation, including earthworks, drainage (e.g., raised sand bases), re-fencing, and integrating existing features like ramps or trees. Prefab components from our Wagga facility enable 1-2 week installs for average yards, incorporating options like StockFlow™ pneumatics or trenched services. Contractors manage unloading with machinery (e.g., telehandlers), precise hole digging, roof builds (with downpipes), yard assembly from working areas outward, and concreting (100mm slabs with non-slip finishes). On-site agreements cover extras like equipment or accommodation, resulting in low-maintenance, safe yards.

SERVICE

ProWay’s service and support process is all about using our experience and resources to minimise project risks. It also involves backup support and maintenance guides to ensure you achieve your productivity goals and minimise maintenance costs. We kick off with dedicated project managers guiding you from initial consult to handover, ensuring seamless communication and on-time delivery. If you have any questions please reach out to us.

Advanced Yard Technology: Pneumatic & Remote Handling

ProWay has developed  pneumatic solutions that can improve your labour efficiency and speed to process sheep and lambs.

Stock flow is maximised as there is less interaction with people who can potentially cause baulking when in view of animals. A lot of yards already have compressed air for autodrafters, power dosers etc so incorporating Proway pneumatic gates is a relatively simple way to improve productivity when processing sheep and lambs.

Other advantages pneumatics can offer your operation is reducing  the WHS hazards associated with stockyards, allowing you and your staff to work safer.

All systems are custom built for individual operations and can be controlled via remote, dedicated buttons or a switch board.

PROWAY SHEEP YARD OPTIONS

Rail Options

ProWay have a number of standard rail types suited to different operations. Our most popular sheep yard rail types are Oval, Pipe and Ram Breeder.

  • The pipe range while more economical, remains a robust alternative to the oval rail.

DRAFTING OPTIONS

Efficient individual processing of sheep via manual or auto draft systems is a necessity in modern sheep facilities. ProWay strive to offer effective draft and handler lead up solutions for single file processing throughout all of our facilities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Looking for more details about our sheep yards? Here are some common questions we receive from clients.

We personalise yards to suit the client’s site and operation, we can provide you with a price that specifies inclusions and options, and we can start with pricing from our design library for budgetary purposes. Our focus is on providing yards that decrease your cost of production. Our yards are engineered and built to minimise maintenance and whole of life costs.

At ProWay we have over 25 years of feedback from clients using our yards in high throughput operations and in a range of locations. It is this feedback that has allowed us to develop sheepyards, handler and loading ramps that maximise longevity and minimise maintenance.  Our aim is to do it once and do it right.  We have a range of inhouse engineers that ensure our products are fit for purpose and minimise whole of life costs for you.

We also concrete our posts into the ground throughout our working areas and outer yards, making them fully ground engaging. We are not relying on dyna bolts to secure our yards to the concrete which can fail.

Yes . We always aim to provide our clients with the best and safest possible solution when handling their stock. We have over 25 years of experience and feedback to ensure our designs and products minimise safety for operators and livestock.   We have long standing relationships with vets, carriers, pregnancy scanners and other industry partners to ensure our yards deliver safety for all users.

OVAL RAIL

These rails are an extra heavy duty galvanised oval extrusion, 53mm x 35mm

  • The oval profile of tube presents a flat vertical surface, giving excellent visibility with no sharp edges
  • Standard panels have 6 rails and are set at 1050mm high
  • Large gaps between top rails to minimise leg injury to sheep or dogs
  • Posts are fully galvanised 50NB pipe and where swinging gates are longer than 2.5m, 80NB posts are used for strength

Pipe Rail

  • Built using high tensile galvanised pipe with a top rail @ 25NB (34mm O.D) and 5 rails @ 20NB (26mm O.D) below
  • Rails are spaced with optimum air gaps for holding small lambs through to woolly sheep and rams
  • Posts are fully galvanised 50NB pipe and where swinging gates are longer than 2.5m, 80NB posts are used for strength
  • The pipe range while more economical, remains a robust alternative to the oval rail

RAM BREEDER

These rails are an extra heavy duty galvanised oval extrusion, 53mm x 35mm

  • The oval profile of tube presents a flat vertical surface, giving excellent visibility with no sharp edges
  • Standard panels have 6 rails and are set at 1050mm high
  • Large gaps between top rails to minimise leg injury to sheep or dogs
  • Posts are fully galvanised 50NB pipe and where swinging gates are longer than 2.5m, 80NB posts are used for strength

ADJUSTABLE V DRAFTING RACE

  • Can be narrowed in the base to ensure sheep and lambs approach the draft in single file
  • The adjustment allows for varying size sheep/lambs, while freshly shorn sheep can be slowed down by narrowing the V
  • The V-Race is supplied with tumble swing gates at both ends

SHEEP SERPENTINE DRAFT

  • Developed to aid drafting, particularly in British breed and crossbred sheep. It is also equally effective in merino sheep
  • The combination of the tight curve and the tapered sides in the path they must travel, restricts the speed of the sheep, giving the operator comfortable time to make their drafting decision
  • Sheep tend to watch their feet as they are negotiating the curve so are less focused on watching the operator
  • The net effect is more consistent flow of sheep at a moderate speed allowing accurate drafting

ADJUSTABLE LEAD-UP RACE

  • Simple pull/push adjustment both sides with locking pin
  • Six locking points on both sides for variability
  • Sprung backstops supplied for each section of race
  • Hot dipped baseplate which bolts to a concrete slab
  • Adjustable flip gate to improve stockflow into single file
  • Guillotine or tumble swing gates at exit for quick release
  • Optional curved adjustable section into handlers or draft
