PROWAY SHEEP YARD OPTIONS

Rail Options

ProWay have a number of standard rail types suited to different operations. Our most popular sheep yard rail types are Oval, Pipe and Ram Breeder.

DRAFTING OPTIONS

Efficient individual processing of sheep via manual or auto draft systems is a necessity in modern sheep facilities. ProWay strive to offer effective draft and handler lead up solutions for single file processing throughout all of our facilities.

PROWAY SHEEP YARD HIGHLIGHTS

ProWay’s product range are the result of years of research and development, as well as incorporating feedback from our clients. Below is a selection of some of our most popular sheep yard features.

OVAL RAIL

These rails are an extra heavy duty galvanised oval extrusion, 53mm x 35mm

  • The oval profile of tube presents a flat vertical surface, giving excellent visibility with no sharp edges
  • Standard panels have 6 rails and are set at 1050mm high
  • Large gaps between top rails to minimise leg injury to sheep or dogs
  • Posts are fully galvanised 50NB pipe and where swinging gates are longer than 2.5m, 80NB posts are used for strength

Pipe Rail

  • Built using high tensile galvanised pipe with a top rail @ 25NB (34mm O.D) and 5 rails @ 20NB (26mm O.D) below
  • Rails are spaced with optimum air gaps for holding small lambs through to woolly sheep and rams
  • Posts are fully galvanised 50NB pipe and where swinging gates are longer than 2.5m, 80NB posts are used for strength
  • The pipe range while more economical, remains a robust alternative to the oval rail

RAM BREEDER

These rails are an extra heavy duty galvanised oval extrusion, 53mm x 35mm

  • The oval profile of tube presents a flat vertical surface, giving excellent visibility with no sharp edges
  • Standard panels have 6 rails and are set at 1050mm high
  • Large gaps between top rails to minimise leg injury to sheep or dogs
  • Posts are fully galvanised 50NB pipe and where swinging gates are longer than 2.5m, 80NB posts are used for strength

ADJUSTABLE V DRAFTING RACE

  • Can be narrowed in the base to ensure sheep and lambs approach the draft in single file
  • The adjustment allows for varying size sheep/lambs, while freshly shorn sheep can be slowed down by narrowing the V
  • The V-Race is supplied with tumble swing gates at both ends

SHEEP SERPENTINE DRAFT

  • Developed to aid drafting, particularly in British breed and crossbred sheep. It is also equally effective in merino sheep
  • The combination of the tight curve and the tapered sides in the path they must travel, restricts the speed of the sheep, giving the operator comfortable time to make their drafting decision
  • Sheep tend to watch their feet as they are negotiating the curve so are less focused on watching the operator
  • The net effect is more consistent flow of sheep at a moderate speed allowing accurate drafting

ADJUSTABLE LEAD-UP RACE

  • Simple pull/push adjustment both sides with locking pin
  • Six locking points on both sides for variability
  • Sprung backstops supplied for each section of race
  • Hot dipped baseplate which bolts to a concrete slab
  • Adjustable flip gate to improve stockflow into single file
  • Guillotine or tumble swing gates at exit for quick release
  • Optional curved adjustable section into handlers or draft

DIAMOND YARDS

  • Diamond yards offer maximum flexibility in your yard, allowing easy transfer of stock between four adjoining holding yards
  • Sheep can be drafted through these yards or temporarily held in the 6-9 square metre pen
  • The yard is small enough for catching and marking lambs, but when open as a throughput, remains flexible for moving large mobs of sheep
  • Most of ProWay’s standard designs implement at least one diamond yard

DOUBLE WORKING RACE

  • Allows for double capacity in your race, encouraging sheep flow as stock fill side-by-side
  • Standard width is 1200mm (centre of posts) with 600mm lanes allowing the operator to work outside the race while stopping sheep from turning around
  • The race frame is braced underneath for strength and concreted in place. All of our races have a smooth top to ensure drenching hoses etc. do not fall through and get caught
  • Each race panel can be easily removed to fit a scan crate etc
  • Gates can also be installed to allow drafting out of the race

SINGLE WORKING RACE

  • The single lane working race allows the operator access to both sides of the stock
  • Standard width is 600mm (centre of posts) allowing the operator to work outside the race while stopping sheep from turning around
  • The race frame is braced underneath for strength and concreted in place
  • All of our races have a smooth top to ensure drenching hoses etc. do not fall through and get caught
  • Each race panel can be easily removed to fit a scan crate etc

SHEEP ROTARY FORCE

  • Designed for operators who are undertaking more individual processing of sheep
  • The concept is based on our cattle rotary force, allowing bulk numbers to be reduced to single file down a race
  • The force and race are curved and sheeted to promote stock flow
  • The rotary forces and curved races have proven popular with stud breeders who need to quickly process large numbers of individual animals

RAISED RACE BOXING

  • Installed during construction to give operators improved reach into the working race
  • A channel groove is boxed into the slab area to allow feet under the race, ultimately getting the stock man closer to the sheep with less stress on their legs and back
  • The slab sits up on a galvanised section and is reinforced with fibre mesh to strengthen the overhanging lip

SLIDING RACE GATES

  • These gates are an alternative to standard tumble swing gates, which run on wheels above the race
  • They allow for fluid movement of stock and are excellent “blockers” in a single race setup
  • Sheep or rams can be moved through, held and treated, tagged or scanned etc
  • Gates and frames are of solid construction, fully galvanised for longevity and concreted into the slab with the rest of the race

TUMBLE SWING GATES

  • Developed for blocking races and draft races
  • These pivot from the centre of the post and roll out towards the operator, swinging flush against the fence
  • The gates are especially useful when stock are packed hard against the gate as the operator can open or close the gate without clearing sheep
  • The gate has vertical rails to eliminate the risk of breaking a leg should sheep attempt to jump over

GUILLOTINE GATES

  • These gates are generally situated at the end of the handling race and are used to block the exit when filling with sheep
  • They minimise walking as they can be operated from anywhere along the handling race
  • Operated by pulling on a cable which is counter weighted at one end, they can be left in closed or open position with ease
  • The gate has vertical rails to eliminate the risk of breaking a leg should sheep attempt to jump over

DRAFT GATES

  • Installed at the end of V and handling races these gates allow the operator to draft sheep three ways
  • Built with hand safe handles for quick operation, without the risk of jamming fingers
  • Available in 1.1m or 1.6m lengths and swung off 50NB posts or the optional drafting module which can be lifted out to fit a weigh crate or auto draft unit
  • Draft stoppers are fitted to hold gates in place when not in use
  • Fully galvanised pipe rail construction with 25NB top rail and 5 x 20NB rails below

SPRING LOADED MANWAYS

  • These short access gates are placed in key locations within the design
  • A catch and spring on one side keeps this gate shut with minimal effort and stops sheep getting through
  • 600mm wide for quick open and close operation
  • Can be made in any rail type to match surrounding yards including oval, pipe or fully sheeted where necessary
  • Takes the hassle out of climbing over fences or opening long gates to move between yards

UNDERCOVER WORK AREAS

  • Provides weather protection to operators, stock and yards to increase efficiency, productivity and longevity of stockyards
  • Heavy duty steel construction with colourbond or zinc roof option
  • Able to organise erection during construction of yards ready for first yarding
  • We are able to design your shed around yards, or design yards around an existing shed to maximise coverage and utilise columns and space
