Mingbool Upgrade Delivers Comfort and Efficiency
Dave and Emily Paltridge approached Proway in 2024 about the need to upgrade their sheep yards at their home property in Mingbool, South Australia. Their existing main set of sheep yards, although flowed quite well, were tired, had issues with mud, and just weren’t pleasant to work in.
Part of the new build included a roof cover with wall cladding to prevent rain and wind, while being high enough to allow the shed to be used as a multi-purpose space. This provides flexibility for machinery storage, dry sheep storage for shearing, and improved comfort during routine sheep procedures. The roof was erected in Winter 2025, with the new yard completed in time for lamb marking in July 2025.
When asked what he liked about the new facility, Dave highlighted the roof cover to keep out of the rain and the sun, along with the features the new Proway yard has provided. These include diamond yards, vehicle access for crutching trailers and scanners, catch upgrades, and spring-loaded access gates.
The Paltridges also invested in a mobile Bulk Handler to service the three farming blocks they operate. They are considering installing a permanent Bulk Handler in the new sheepyard facility in the coming years, while continuing to use the mobile unit across their other blocks to reduce setup and pack-up time and improve convenience.
When asked about the Bulk Handler, Dave said:
“We would be lost without it. Now we have one, we can’t imagine life without one. We no longer have animals go down. We are no longer operating within the race and we don’t have to keep the race packed.”
Dave and Emily now carry out most routine sheep treatments themselves and do “nearly everything” in the Bulk Handler.
A great job and well done to all.
